Mexican Immigration

This photo pisses me off to no end. I found it on Facebook and wrote my response. To those who may doubt the details I give, you should know that I've lived with and worked with Hispanic immigrants for years. My job as a Missionary for the LDS Church was to get to know these people and their struggles while teaching them the Gospel. The stories and experiences I learned from them shocked me and broke my heart. They are not the villains they are made out to be by American politicians.

 Let's try this:

1 - Demand Citizenship, most illegal immigrants who are "demanding" this are the ones who were brought here as little children, have grown up here and not known any other nation but the U.S. as their home, they only speak some Spanish and don't know much about their parents' home other than from family stories.

2 - Not pay taxes, that is a myth as many illegal immigrants do still pay taxes. It may not always be accurate but they are still paying, and frankly if not paying taxes was such a big deal then American citizens would be up in arms over the wealthy who keep evading taxes and have multiple years of back taxes due to the government.

3 - Refuse to learn the language, how many Americans have been able to pass Spanish or French in High School without resorting to cheating or extra credit assignments and still have absolutely no ability to speak or read outside of class? How many American tourists go to Mexico every year and demand that the Mexican shop keepers and business workers speak English to them? And let's not forget that many of the illegal immigrants do not have a basic elementary education from their own country and do not know how to properly speak or read their own language. How can they quickly learn ours if they could never properly learn their own?

4 - Criticize their country, the fact of the matter is that Mexico is a corrupt nation and police violence is far more rampant there than it is here. Also the power of the drug cartels make living in many parts of Mexico extremely dangerous. Guess who supplies the weapons that the police and cartels use in their murders? The United States. Also, how much like Mexico is America? We are incredibly corrupt and violent as well. And hell, we complain about how crappy our own country is so why should we be angry if these immigrants actually agree with us?

5 - Being called Racists, well when you invent slurs based on the color of someone's skin or invent terms like "wetback" and other derogatory words that are entirely based on their race you had better believe that you will be called a racist. As for wanting to send them back at all, it would depend on your reasons and who exactly you want to send back. If you want to send everyone back (illegal or not) just because they speak a different language or have a different color skin, then yes you are a racist.

And just to add another kick to the teeth to this fiasco: you may not realize that much of the prime real estate of Mexico is actually owned by Americans. We take their best land and make it our winter homes and have almost no legal obstacles. They spend all their money and spend many years just to try and get a small piece of our worst lands. Once we're there on Mexican soil, we still make them speak English to us.
